About the event
Steve Breen was born in Los Angeles and raised in Orange County. In 1992, he graduated from the University of California at Riverside with a degree in political science. Steve got his start in newspapers at the Asbury Park Press in 1994. He has been the editorial cartoonist for the Union-Tribune since 2001. His work is nationally syndicated by Creators News Service and regularly appear in The New York Times, USA Today, Newsweek and US News and World Report. His comic strip "Grand Avenue" appears in more than 150 newspapers across the country. Steve is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning (1998, 2009). In his spare time, Steve writes and illustrates picture books for Penguin including Stick (2007) Violet The Pilot (2008) The Secret of Santa's Island (2009) and Pug and Doug (2013). Steve lives in San Diego with his wife and five children. He enjoys reading, running, playing the guitar, watching old movies on Netflix and chatting with his father on the phone.
